YOUR APPOINTMENT
What happens at my appointment?
As an osteopath, I take a global view and consider all aspects of your health and wellbeing. I am fortunate to have plenty of time to discuss your problem and aim to give you:

-
A clear explanation and understanding
-
A musculoskeletal examination
-
I might test your blood pressure, your nerves, listen to your breathing, or other systemic testing if indicated by your case history
-
Osteopathic manual therapy
-
An action plan that makes sense

I am are trained to check for signs of serious conditions I cannot treat. In these circumstances, I will inform you of what I believe is the problem and refer you to see your GP or hospital for further investigations.
Will I need to undress?
Examination and treatment requires visual assessment and palpation (a highly developed sense of touch), therefore it may be useful to remove a top or trousers. You will never be asked to undress fully and you are welcome to wear comfortable clothing.

Will treatment be painful?
In general, osteopathic treatment helps people to feel more comfortable afterwards. Occasionally, treatment can cause a short-term increase in pain or discomfort which usually subsides after 24-48 hours. If you feel concerned, it is important you speak to me to seek advice.

After care
I will always conclude an osteopathy session with advice on movement, exercise and self-help techniques to complement treatment. These strategies will always be re-evaluated at each session to ensure you are getting the most out of any prescribed exercise.
